My journey began with fitness.
I was a runner for many years, and while training for a marathon, I became injured. Seeking out a massage therapist to treat my injury, and true to form asking a million questions, I ended up falling in love with massage and next thing you know I was registered in massage school!
In 2010, I graduated from Wellington College of Remedial Massage with my 2200hrs. Within this program, I was taught to assess and treat major dysfunctions of the body along side the implementation of exercise rehabilitation. After a few years of massaging clients, I became increasingly interested in corrective exercise to help my clients that were continually seeing me for back pain and various injuries. This lead me to become certified as a Resistance Training Specialist through AFLCA in 2011. Since I have also become certified in TRX, Integrative Corrective Exercise, myofascial cupping and I’ve become a Reiki Master. Summer of 2012, I found out I had melanoma and Hypothyroid. I knew then that I needed to make some big changes to my life – and my health – for the better. With more than a decade of struggling with an eating disorder and body image issues, I knew the missing link to my health was my diet. So, I began my quest to LOVE food. But it didn’t happen over night…My journey with food began in 2014, completely changing my life! I began taking Sports and Exercise Nutrition by Precision Nutrition to learn the science behind what happens in our bodies when we eat (or don’t eat). It was in 2015 that I decided to begin spreading the word about my journey to health and the powerful effects food and exercise can make in our lives. So, I started Etana Wellness. A company that focuses on confidence building and healing through massage, personal training, nutrition, and reiki. A complete approach to health and wellness. My goal is, to share my story openly and to hopefully inspire others who are struggling to make similar changes in their lives.
What’s to come for Etana Wellness?
Well, very soon I plan to specialize in Breast Massage. Working with clients that have had breast cancers, mastectomies, augmentations, and nursing moms. Also, to continue my journey with loving food, I will be taking the PachaVega Whole Food Chef Certification spring 2017. And around the same time, I will be taking a NeuroKinetic Therapy course to bridge my knowledge of massage and personal training just that much more. Great things to come!
