<p>I&#8217;ve been asked a lot lately about what I do to meditate. So I thought I&#8217;d share with you all in one quick blog post <img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/1f642.png" alt="🙂" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /></p>
<p>These days I&#8217;m finding it difficult to practice my Vipassana mediation of completely clearing my mind and focusing on my breath. So I have created this for myself instead. It gives my mind something to focus on and at the end I feel incredible! It really sets the tone for the whole day.</p>
<p>Here we go</p>
<h2>One &#8211; The Breath</h2>
<p>I start by clearing my mind and solely observing my breath. Some days I am able to do this quite well. These days, I cannot.  When I have a busy day ahead, its sometimes very hard to let my mind rest and all I&#8217;m able to do is 3-5 breaths without my mind wondering, to be honest.</p>
<p>I aim for 1 minute. But I let myself off the hook if Its too much of a struggle and just try to focus on 3-5 belly breaths just to steady my breathing.</p>
<h2>Two &#8211; Positive Thoughts</h2>
<p>I have created a mantra for myself.  Or a series of really positive things I say.</p>
<p>For example:</p>
<p><em>I am present. I am grounded. I am healthy. I am happy. I am strong inside and out. I am financially abundant. I am kind. I am humble. I am successful.</em></p>
<p>I will even add specific stuff like:</p>
<p><em>I do 17 massages/week. I do 4 spray tans/week. I sell 2 personal training packages/month.</em></p>
<p>I say this at least 3 times in a row. Sometimes more if I am in a funky mood or tired. And If I&#8217;m even having trouble focusing on this I say them out loud to help.</p>
<h2>Three &#8211; Gratitude</h2>
<p>I sit and think of all the things I&#8217;m grateful for. And I don&#8217;t just think of them&#8230;. I feel them! I smile. Sometimes I cry because it makes me so happy and I&#8217;m so freakin grateful <img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/1f642.png" alt="🙂" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /></p>
<h2>Four &#8211; Grounding</h2>
<p>I ground myself.  If I&#8217;m seated I feel the floor under my feet or the chair under my bum. If I&#8217;m laying on the ground I feel the floor under my body.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>That&#8217;s it! This usually takes between 5-10 minutes to start my day.</p>

<p>I spent quite some time trying recipes for kale chips to find my favorite one&#8230;. And here it is!</p>

<li class="wprm-recipe-ingredient"><span class="wprm-recipe-ingredient-amount">1</span>&nbsp;<span class="wprm-recipe-ingredient-name">red bell pepper</span></li>
<li class="wprm-recipe-ingredient"><span class="wprm-recipe-ingredient-amount">1/2</span>&nbsp;<span class="wprm-recipe-ingredient-unit">cup</span>&nbsp;<span class="wprm-recipe-ingredient-name">nutritional yeast</span></li>

Trust me!</span></li>
<li class="wprm-recipe-ingredient"><span class="wprm-recipe-ingredient-amount">1/4 to 1/2</span>&nbsp;<span class="wprm-recipe-ingredient-unit">cup</span>&nbsp;<span class="wprm-recipe-ingredient-name">water to get the right consistency</span>&nbsp;<span class="wprm-recipe-ingredient-notes">&#8211; thick but creamy</span></li>
<li><span class="wprm-recipe-ingredient-unit">squeeze</span>&nbsp;<span class="wprm-recipe-ingredient-name">lemon juice</span></li>
<li>1 tsp of tumeric</li>
<li><span class="wprm-recipe-ingredient-amount">2</span>&nbsp;<span class="wprm-recipe-ingredient-unit">tsp</span>&nbsp;<span class="wprm-recipe-ingredient-name">salt</span></li>
<li><span class="wprm-recipe-ingredient-amount">2</span>&nbsp;<span class="wprm-recipe-ingredient-unit">tsp</span>&nbsp;<span class="wprm-recipe-ingredient-name">onion powder</span></li>
<li><span class="wprm-recipe-ingredient-amount">1</span>&nbsp;<span class="wprm-recipe-ingredient-unit">tsp</span>&nbsp;<span class="wprm-recipe-ingredient-name">garlic powder</span></li>
<li><span class="wprm-recipe-ingredient-amount">1</span>&nbsp;<span class="wprm-recipe-ingredient-unit">tsp</span>&nbsp;<span class="wprm-recipe-ingredient-name">cayenne pepper</span></li>
</ul>

<ol>
<li>Toss all the ingredients (except for the Kale) into a blender and blend until smooth and creamy.</li>
<li>Add water until you get the consistency of a cheese sauce.</li>
<li>tear the leaves off of the spine of the kale.</li>
<li>wash the kale and dry thoroughly.</li>
<li>pour the Go Nuts “Cheese” Sauce over the kale until fully coated. Get right in there with your hands and mix it up well!</li>
</ol>
<p>OVEN: place on a baking tray and bake at 135° C (275° F) for about 25 minutes – flipping over half way through.</p>
<p>DEHYDRATOR: place on the rack and set to dry at 50° C (130° F) for about 10-12 hours or overnight.</p>

<p>It is a deeply relaxing treatment using the application of therapeutic essential oils to the feet, back and neck.</p>
<p>My clients call this treatment &#8220;Relax to the MAX treatment&#8221; lol</p>
<p>It begins with applying the oils to the Vita Flex points along the arches of the feet.</p>
<p>The Vita Flex technique was developed by the Tibetans thousands of years ago, even before acupuncture. Its literal meaning is &#8220;vitality through the reflexes&#8221;.</p>

<p>A great way to help manage stress in the body is to receive a massage.</p>

<h2><strong>What is fight or flight?</strong></h2>
<p>When our fight or flight system is activated, we tend to perceive everything in our environment as a possible threat to our survival. By its very nature, the fight or flight system bypasses our rational mind—where our more well thought out beliefs exist—and moves us into “attack” mode. This state of alert causes us to perceive almost everything in our world as a possible threat to our survival. As such, we tend to see everyone and everything as a possible enemy. We may overreact to the slightest comment. Our fear is exaggerated. Our thinking is distorted. We see everything through the filter of possible danger. We narrow our focus to those things that can harm us. Fear becomes the lens through which we see the world.</p>
<p>Sustained fight-or-flight response can cause problems. In fact, constant stress actually becomes “distress” — a negative stress reaction.  We can begin to see how it is almost impossible to cultivate positive attitudes and beliefs when we are stuck in survival mode. Our heart is not open. Our rational mind is disengaged. Our consciousness is focused on fear, not love. Making clear choices and recognizing the consequences of those choices is unfeasible. We are focused on short-term survival, not the long-term consequences of our beliefs and choices. When we are overwhelmed with excessive stress, our life becomes a series of short-term emergencies. We lose the ability to relax and enjoy the moment. We live from crisis to crisis, with no relief in sight. Burnout is inevitable.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><span style="color: #33cccc;"><strong>The Power of Whole Foods &#8211; And My BIG News!!</strong></span></p>
<p>I&#8217;ve always known that eating healthy can prevent diseases and health problems.  But, I had no idea the impact my eating healthy would have in REVERSING my health problems.</p>
<p>In 2012, I was told that I had to start taking thyroid medication for Hypothyroidism.  This is when your thyroid is under active.  I was sleeping all the time and couldn&#8217;t control my weight.  This is a common thing for the women on my moms side of the family.   This, sadly, didn&#8217;t spark my quest for proper nutrition and living a healthier lifestyle.  It wasn&#8217;t until I was told I had skin cancer (Melanoma), that I began looking into what I was putting in my mouth.</p>
<p>Exercise had always been a huge part of my life.  But my nutrition was so terrible! I ate to not feel hungry&#8230;.and that was pretty much the extent to my thought process when making a meal for myself.  It was usually something very quick and easy as I didn&#8217;t like to cook.  Or spend a lot of money on food.  I had a terrible relationship with food.  With directly linking self worth to body size, and using restricted dieting as my way of achieving this, I hated food! I hated my body!</p>
<p>Oh man. So sad to see this is writing.  But it is the blunt truth.</p>
<p>Ultimately, I decided to start focusing on my nutrition.  First, I began looking into what foods could help prevent cancer, as this is what really scared me the most.  Then, it just snow balled.  I began to notice that it wasn&#8217;t JUST nutrition it was my way of thinking that was ultimately making me sick. I started questioning why I even hated my body to begin with? Where did that come from? I started to recognize eating patters, or should I say, non-eating patterns, during times of turmoil or stress in my life.  This lead to taking all 3 levels of Reiki to heal myself from the inside out.  And then&#8230; BOOM! This beautiful, healthy, white light of love surrounded me.  I felt love.  Self love.  All my dimples&#8230;all my roles. None of that really matters anymore.  My body is incredible.  The things it can do when I put it to the test, the way it heals itself, all of the mind blowing organ systems working systematically to keep me trucking day in and day out. I mean WOW!</p>
<p>After that, nothing was more important than fueling my body with goodness! Healthy whole foods and lots of it! The more the better!  I didn&#8217;t want to focus on calories or how much weight I would gain by doing so.  I just wanted to eat.  With no intention of  restriction or caring of the consequences.  MY GAWD HOW FREEING.</p>
<p>And the most awesome things have started to happen.  My body weight hasn&#8217;t really changed as much as I thought it would.  I have more energy, sleep like the dead, my hair grows like a weed, my skin&#8230;well its still dry.  Who am I kidding, its Alberta! lol And to top it all off, my thyroid is kicking back in on its own!!! I mean, how freakin cool is that?!</p>
<p>I am literally reversing all the damage I did to my metabolism and thyroid from my terrible eating habits over the last 20 years. That&#8217;s right&#8230;reversing it. Whoot Whoot!</p>
